Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) Prevention:
60% of the adult population will experience some type of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) within a 12 month period and 20 to 30 percent will have weekly symptoms. Approximately 7 million people in the United States have some symptoms of GERD.
Stomach acids come back towards the mouth and as a result heartburn, bad breath, chest pain , vomiting, breathing problems, nausea or vomiting, difficulty or pain when swallowing and wearing away of the teeth may occur is called GERD.
You have to take medication for long time or even need surgery to cure form GERD. So  Prevention is better than cure.
Follow these steps and stay healthy from GERD.
Doctors recommend sleeping on the left tends to calm GERD.

Sleep at a slight angle with the head slightly elevated. wedge pillow that elevates the head may inhibit gastroesophageal reflux during sleep.
Take your food timely but do not overeat.
Avoid or take a limited of trigger foods such as spicy, acidic, or greasy foods, chocolate, peppermint, coffee, alcohol, chocolate, fatty foods and acidic foods(lemon juice, dairy products).

Stop eating 2-3 hours before sleeping.
Stop smoking .
Lose weight if overweight.( BMI =18.5 to 24.9 is normal.)
Do not wear clothing that is tight around the abdomen.
